Sparks, smoke or no power?
Send this now.

Tell us what is happening and where. It reaches us marked as an emergency and goes to one CheckYourTraders-verified electrician, who rings you back.

While you wait

  • Smell burning or see sparks: switch off at the main switch
  • Never touch a wet socket, switch or appliance
  • Fire, smoke you cannot isolate, or a shock: ring 112 first

Emergency electrical work is published in Maltese price guides at €50 to €100 an hour at night and at weekends. You hear the charge before anyone sets off.

Emergency call-out

Marked as an emergency the moment it arrives. This is a request for a call-back, not a confirmed attendance. To get you a call fast we pass your name, number, locality and problem to one CheckYourTraders-verified electrician, who rings you; we may also text you to check it was sorted. If anyone is in danger, ring 112.

Is it your electrics, or the supply?

If the street lights or your neighbours are out too, it is a supply fault: check Enemalta's live outage map. Look at your meter: a blank display means the supply isn't reaching you, which is Enemalta's to fix. If the meter display is on but your property is dark, or one part of it is, the fault is inside the property and that is ours: send the form.

Lights out at 2am? Send it anyway.

Electrical faults don't wait for office hours, and neither does the form. Send it at any hour, any day of the year, and it goes straight to the verified electricians in our network.

Whoever is available takes it and rings you. At night fewer electricians are working, so the one who calls tells you honestly when they can be with you, and what the night call-out costs before they set off.

How Emergency Electrician Malta works

When the lights go out or something smells of burning, you want one competent person on the phone, not a list of numbers. You send one short form. We pass it to a single CheckYourTraders-verified electrician, who rings you, tells you how to make it safe and gives you the call-out charge before setting off.

Emergency electrician prices in Malta

These are the bands published in Maltese price guides in 2026, the same figures our main electrical site uses. They are bands, not quotes: the electrician who rings you tells you the call-out charge before travelling and prices the repair before starting.

LineUnitBandWhat is in it
Emergency electricianper hour€50 – €100nights, weekends and public holidays
Standard call-outper visit€20 – €60daytime visit; labour on top at the hourly rate
Fault finding / RCD trippingper job€60 – €150diagnosis of a tripping RCD, dead circuit or intermittent fault
Replace a socket or switchper item€35 – €90like-for-like, existing wiring sound
Consumer unit / fuse board upgradeper board€300 – €800new board with RCD protection to the current regulations

Night, weekend and public-holiday work is charged at the emergency hourly rate. A board replacement is rarely done in the middle of the night: the electrician makes it safe first and quotes the rest.

Authorised by law.
Checked by us.

In Malta, work on an electrical installation is restricted by law to electricians authorised by the Regulator for Energy and Water Services under the Electrical Installations Regulations (S.L. 545.24). Ask the electrician for their authorisation number: a competent one will give it without hesitation.

Every electrician we pass an emergency to is a member of CheckYourTraders, which checks identity and insurance and publishes reviews from real customers with the trader's right of reply. If an electrician doesn't ring you, or the job goes wrong, tell us: it counts against them on the next call.

Malta and Gozo, day and night

We pass emergencies to verified electricians across Malta and in Gozo. In Gozo we use a Gozo-based electrician where we have one; if they have to cross from Malta the ferry adds time, and they will tell you when they can realistically be there. You can send the form at any hour. The call back depends on who is free, and we will never pretend otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an emergency electrician cost in Malta?
Published Maltese price guides put emergency electrical work at €50 to €100 an hour at night, at weekends and on public holidays, against a daytime call-out of €20 to €60. Fault finding on a tripping RCD or a dead circuit is €60 to €150. The electrician tells you the call-out charge before setting off.
I have no power. Is it Enemalta or an electrician?
Check whether the neighbours or the street lights are out, and look at Enemalta's live outage map. If your meter display is blank, the supply is not reaching you and the fault is Enemalta's to fix. If the meter display is on but your property is dark, the fault is inside the property, and that is an electrician's job.
My board keeps tripping and won't reset. What do I do?
Switch every circuit breaker off, reset the main switch or RCD, then switch the breakers back on one at a time. The one that trips it is the faulty circuit: leave it off and unplug everything on it. If the main switch will not reset even with every breaker off, leave it off and send the form.
There is a burning smell from a socket. Is that an emergency?
Yes. Switch off at the main switch on the board, do not touch the socket or the plug, and keep everyone away. If there is smoke you cannot isolate, or any flame, leave the property and ring 112.
Water is coming through a light fitting. What should I do?
Switch off at the main switch on the board straight away and do not use the light switch. Stop the water at its source if you can (often the flat above), and keep clear of the wet area. Do not switch back on until an electrician has checked the circuit.
Is it really 24/7?
Yes, in the sense that matters: you can send the form at any hour, every day of the year, and it goes straight to the verified electricians in our network, nights, weekends and public holidays included. Whoever is available takes it and rings you. At 3am fewer electricians are working, so the one who calls will tell you honestly when they can be there; we never promise an arrival time we cannot keep.
Do you cover Gozo?
Yes. Emergencies in Gozo go to an electrician based on Gozo wherever we have one. If the electrician has to come from Malta, the ferry adds travel time, and they will tell you honestly when they can be with you.
Is this a confirmed appointment?
No. The form is a request for a call-back, and the electrician who rings you will say when they can attend. If there is fire, smoke you cannot isolate, or anyone has had an electric shock, ring 112 first.
Who do I pay?
The electrician. They contract with you directly for the call-out and the repair and invoice you themselves. We pass the emergency on and follow up afterwards to check it was sorted.
